**Update 14 February 2020 WordPress.com returned the link to WP Admin in the MySite’s dashboard for all users. You can read more in this recent post.
WordPress.com site administration has moved little by little from the WP Admin dashboard to the new-ish Calypso dashboard since it’s introduction two years ago. There are still many features that are ultimately handled in the WP Admin dashboard, even if they start out in the Calypso dashboard. Some examples include changing your site address, transferring site ownership, approving a new Viewer on a Private site, adding links to a blog roll, adding a poll to your site, disallowing comments on media files, emptying your site content without deleting your entire site, and many others.
For long-time WordPress.com users this back and forth between WP Admin and Calypso is inconvenient, if not maddening. For new WordPress.com users it’s an adventure because new user sign ups do not have a direct link to their WP Admin dashboard from Calypso and may not even know what WP Admin is.
Given the push to use the Calypso Dashboard exclusively, perhaps Staff’s amnesia is not surprising when users ask about adding features through the WP Admin dashboard. Two recent examples include automatically adding star ratings to posts and pages and adding other sharing services to the ones WordPress.com now offers. It’s still possible to do, but through WP Admin. (NB: See below)
@wordpressdotcom let’s bring it back.
NB: After you follow the instructions on PollDaddy to set up the ratings initially, the ratings system shows up in your WP Admin>Feedback>Polls dashboard and can be adjusted and viewed directly there or on PollDaddy.
Additional sharing services can be added if you know the set-up URLs, or also through Add-to-Any, which opens the WP Admin Dashboard>Settings>Sharing settings during the set-up process. (Yes, there is overlap with WordPress.com sharing services, but as of publication date, there are far more sharing services hidden behind one Add-to-Any button than currently available on WordPress.com.)
